SEO monthly tip - Content is king, but context is the prince - june 18, 2011

Posted by: TJM Marketing Team

When it comes to visibility on the Web, the name of the game is search engine optimization. You want Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. to be able to find your content in a way that gives you a good ranking in the search results. The higher your ranking, the easier it is for your customers to find you.

It’s a cliché that “content is king” when it comes to SEO.  Relevant, useful information is the key to getting your website ranked and seen by prospective customers. What’s often not mentioned, however, is that CONTEXT is the prince.

Here’s the deal: Sure, the search engines look for keywords in your page copy. But if you want to improve your page ranking, think about the context in which those keywords appear as well. The search engines look at that, too. Quality, relevant content related to your keywords will increase your visibility.

For example, if your site has information about baseball pins, it’s good to have “baseball pins” as a keyword phrase. You’ll get better results though, if you also discuss youth baseball leagues, umpires, team schedules and the World Series as well. Anything that puts “baseball pins” into the larger context of baseball will help. Give visitors to your site useful information, not just pointless paragraphs.

Bottom line: The days of keyword stuffing are over. The more naturally your site reads to real human beings, the better it will perform in the search engines. Put your content in context and you’re ahead of your competitors.

Got a Website? How's that working for you? - June 10th, 2011

Does your business have a website? You pretty much have to have one these days. If your business doesn't and your competitor does, you're facing a serious competitive disadvantage.

Web Design

Consumers have come to expect the ability to find information about a business, product or service before they buy. If they can't find it on your website, they'll look somewhere else.

If you have a website, what is its purpose? If you had to think about that for a second, and answered with anything other than "to increase my sales," your website needs work. The ONLY reason your business website exists is to increase your sales and make you money.

OK, so how successful is your website in increasing your sales? Can you get inquiries directly from customers through it? What's your rate of converting those inquiries into sales? If you don't know what your website is doing for your sales, your website needs work.

That's where TJM Promotions can help. We've been designing websites for years. We know what works and what doesn't. We stay up to date on the latest web trends and traps. We can help you redesign your website to bring you more sales. The bottom line is, our talented web design staff can help you make more money.
